Moving announcement wording: how to share a new address

A moving announcement is the most practical card you will ever send. The news is the address, and the card's job is to get it into the hands of the people who mail you things, so put the address where it cannot be missed.

Here is what to include, how to lay it out, and wording to copy. On our moving cards you give us your family name, the new address, and an optional move date, and we set the type for your proof.

What to include

  • Your name or family name, so the card can be matched to the right people in an address book.
  • The full new address, on its own lines, with the zip code.
  • The date the new address takes effect, if mail should not go there yet.
  • Optional: a new phone number or email, if those changed too.
  • Optional: 'Come say hello' or an open invitation to visit.

Do not print the old address. People only need the new one, and a card that carries both tends to be filed under the wrong one.

When to send

Mail the cards in the first few weeks after the move, once you are sure of the address and have a mailbox to receive replies. If the move is scheduled, you can send them a week or two ahead with the effective date on the card.

Our moving cards come in sets of 25 to 150 with white envelopes included. Every order gets a free digital proof first, so the address prints exactly as you typed it. Order about three weeks ahead of when you want them mailed.
