Engagement announcement wording: 15 ways to say 'we're engaged'
An engagement announcement is a happy card with almost nothing to explain. Two names, the news, and maybe a season. It goes to the people who should hear it from you rather than from a feed.
Here is what to include and wording you can copy. On our engagement cards you give us your names and the date if you have one, and we press the type in real gold foil on your proof.
What to include
- Both names. First names are the usual choice.
- The news: 'engaged', 'she said yes', 'we're getting married'.
- Optional: the wedding date, the season, or 'date to come'. Many couples leave it off and send a save the date later.
- Optional: who is announcing, if the parents are sending the card.
An engagement card is not a save the date and not an invitation, so it carries no venue, no registry, and no RSVP.

Announcement, party invitation, or save the date?
Three different cards do three different jobs, and it helps to keep them apart. The engagement announcement shares the news and asks for nothing. An engagement party invitation names a place and a time and wants a reply. The save the date comes later, once the wedding date is set, and tells guests to hold the day.
If you are not sure which you need, start with the announcement. It is the one card every engaged couple can send right away, and it does not commit you to a date or a guest list.
When to send, and to whom
Tell parents and the closest people in person or by phone first, then mail the cards in the weeks after. Send one to anyone likely to be invited to the wedding, plus the older relatives who keep every card.
Our engagement cards are foil-pressed in sets of 25 to 150 with white envelopes included. Every order gets a free digital proof first, so the names are right before the foil is pressed. Order about three weeks ahead of when you want them mailed, four in December.
